It's all about...

SAVING BABIES

It’s just as intense and as important as that famous TV Program of the same name…….

Except our babies are “fur babies”

Vinnie

This beautiful 11 week old puppy arrived mid December 2007
at NSWAR missing an ear.

Orphaned at birth
This puppy's mother died during birth.  This little one was hand
reared, survived and has been adopted.
Our hand reared babies are kept in temperature controlled facilities and cared for
by qualified veterinary nurses.
We provide high quality care and 24 hour supervision.

Little Ginger Megs
came to NSWAR with her mum and littermates.
She was not thriving and needed specialist veterinary care for several weeks.
Ginger Megs has been adopted.

Mickie

Born with irreversible brain damage and sent to NSWAR from interstate.
NSWAR cares for homeless special needs animals from all over Australia.

Ollie
arrived at the rescue September 2007
Ollie needed urgent veterinary care when he arrived at the rescue.

Just 5 weeks old, he was dehydrated and suffering from numerous conditions.

Ollie's eyes were glued shut due to swelling from infection, and his little
mouth so sore and swollen he could not suck or eat without assistance.

Ollie also had a debilitating skin condition and a secondary infection had developed.

Another 24 hours without specialist intervention and Ollie would not have survived

SEVEN TINY PUPPIES WERE LEFT TO DIE!
Abandoned by a heartless human in the cold and rain

On the news we saw the devastation of the recent flooding in Newcastle.
In western Sydney the weather was cold, wet and windy, and minor flooding
in many areas.  Well imagine if you weighed less than a half kilogram, were
three weeks old and dumped in the rain on one of Sydney's coldest days.

Seven teeny chihuahua/terrier puppies who arrived here in a distressed and
hypothermic state.
After 48 hours of intensive care at the shelter, these
puppies are now being cared for by an experienced neonate carer.  How
could anyone abandon tiny puppies on a cold, raining and windy day in a
flood prone area?   These pups were noticed by a passing motorist who
saved their life because she cared for other living beings.

SAPPHIRA AND HUGO

Sapphira and Hugo were dumped on the streets when they were 6 weeks old.
On arrival at our rescue they required veterinary treatment for
hypothermia and malnutrition.

Hugo and Sapphira won the heart of Miss World Australia 2007

Blackie

Blackie came to us when she was four weeks old.
She was seriously ill with anaemia and dehydrated, resulting from an overburden of fleas.
Blackie was very tiny and needed 24 hour care.

She survived and today weighs over 30 kg.

ORPHANED AT BIRTH
The result of backyard breeding

These little puppies were surrendered to NSW Animal Rescue Inc after the mother died of a ruptured uterus whilst giving birth to 10 pups. 4 died during birth, leaving 6 helpless new lives to save.  These puppies need 24 hour round the clock care in the hope they would survive.
Unfortunately, only one puppy survived, despite our efforts.

Oscar, the surviving puppy

Oscar has a forever family to call his own!

Meet Pete

Pete, the german shepherd puppy came to us when he was
about 10 days old.

He had been dumped in a park by some heartless person
who did not want him.

Pete was 24 hour around the clock intensive care,
and he was a survivor.

Pete has been adopted!

6 tiny puppies

These 6 tiny shih-tzu cross bubs were born on the 20th July.
Their mum came to us heavily pregnant and in a very poor state of health,
and shortly after arriving at our rescue she gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies,
4 boys and 2 girls.

ABANDONED
AND ONLY A FEW WEEKS OLD!

Abandoned puppy

This dear little man we have named Rupert was abandoned, and he is only a few weeks old.  Rupert has puncture wounds consistent with being attacked by a larger animal (possibly a dog) encircling his neck and on his front limbs.
He was frightened and very unsure of what life is all about, but we know from experience this little man will be a happy and playful puppy within a very short time.

UPDATE: Rupert is adopted!

Saving babies like the ones pictured here, as well as other dogs that have
been abused, dumped, mistreated and who suffer from health
disorders, is what we do.

But WE NEED YOUR HELP to continue our work.

PLEASE……..DONATE NOW……

and you will be doing your bit to help

MUMS AND BUBS

Many of the 'mums to be' that arrive at the rescue are very weak,
emaciated and have given all their physical resources to their
unborn puppies.

The following photographs show some of our new mums resting
after emergency caesarian surgery.

The cost of each caesarian surgery is expensive, but it is the only way to
save the life of the mumma dog or cat and her unborn babies.

Please note that when we deliver live puppies by caesarian section, the
mumma dog or cat is not speyed until her babies are 8 weeks old.

GINGER

Ginger and her puppies shortly recovering after a caesarian section.  She had 4 puppies, two were stillborn and sadly the other two puppies died within 48 hours of birth.

Ginger is a sweet girl and has been adopted.

STELLA

Pictured is a very sick and exhausted young mum and
her only surviving puppy.

Stella and her puppy have
been adopted.

NSWAR has cared for over 50 mums and their puppies in our
special needs unit.

We give to each mum and her babies quality
veterinary and nursing care.
To continue to provide a high standard of
care we need funding and we need your help.
